火工平台的体积较大，运输包装时常采用铁板包装和木制包装两种形式，火工平台的表面全部使用塑料膜封装，然后装入铁制或木制的包装内，由于内部塑料膜封装，这种包装具有良好的防潮、防锈等特点，适用于内陆运输。
铸铁火工平台安装就调至水平板、负荷均匀分布于各支点上，环境温度为（20?5）℃，使用时应避免振动。
火工平台用途：是适用于各种检验工作,精度测量用的基准平面用于机床机械检验测量基准，检查，并作精密零件的尺寸精度或行为偏差,并作精密划线,在机械制造中也是不可缺少的基本工具.
